China sets up US$10 billion credit line with European nations

Sunday, April 29, 2012

China has pledged US$10 billion in credit to back joint projects with Central and Eastern European countries. Visiting Chinese Premiere Wen Jiabao announced the deal at a business forum in Warsaw, Poland, and said he hopes the deal will facilitate the two sides’ cooperation.

To boost business and trade, Wen said that China wants to help with infrastructure projects, including new technologies and green economy sectors. Also discussed at the Economic Forum was a new investment cooperation fund which would initially boast US$500 million to assist Chinese investments in the region. He also announced a plan to expand the Chinese market with other countries with hopes to build trade exchange to US$100 billion before the year 2015.

“China will work with countries in Central and Eastern Europe to mutually open the markets and to increase the trade exchange to $100 billion before 2015,” Wen said.

He said trade volume between China and central and eastern European countries reached 52.9 billion US dollars in 2011 and had grown 27.6 percent a year on average since 2001, when it was only 4.3 billion US dollars.

Thus far, the largest Chinese investment has been a €1.2 billion (US$1.6 billion) deal made by China’s Wanhua Industrial Group that gained full control of Borsodchem, a Hungarian chemicals firm. Other recent investments were made in Serbia, where a €170 million (US$225 million) bridge was built over the Danube river in Belgrade.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk of Poland happily welcomed the Chinese investment, noting the country’s uprising economy and European leadership role. Both Wen and Tusk enthused about the potential they say their partnership has and encouraged others in the region to form similar agreements.

The Chinese are “very pragmatic” in business, Andrzej Pawelec of Agrihortus company said, who is seeking new partners in China to sell its beverages. “If they see a good and honest business proposal, they are always open.”

Wen started his official visit to Poland on Wednesday. Poland is the last leg of a four-nation Europe tour that included visits to Iceland and Sweden and the opening ceremony of the Hannover Fair in Germany.

Benefits Of Children Learning English As A Second Language}

Benefits of Children Learning English as a Second Language

by

Andrew AbrahamsonThere is a preponderance of evidence that points to the benefits of children learning English as a second language. However, choosing to raise a bilingual child is something that requires a great deal of thought, preparation, and time. As a result, it is a decision that is very personal and will affect the child’s life for years to come. The following paragraphs will explain the benefits of children learning English as a second language and how online English courses provide what other programs may lack.According to “The Sociopolitics of English Language Teaching” by Joan Kelly Hall and William G. Eggington, “Individuals who speak English gain a concrete economic advantage. English provides increased educational and employment opportunities.By encouraging children to learn English as a second language early on, we are setting them up for a number of advantages that will carry out through the rest of their lives. The 2002 U.S. Census indicates that approximately 14% (more than 7.5 million) children between the ages of 5 and 17 are fluent in more than one language, and this number is expected to increase in the coming years. However, the benefits of learning English reach beyond economic, educational, and employment advantages. It also increases a child’s linguistic abilities because bilingual children are better able to comprehend the complexities associated with a particular language’s meaning and grammar. Since some words across various languages share a similar pronunciation and vocabulary, the connection is made for children early on and makes learning a new language more attainable. In addition, children who learn English as a second language are able to expand their vocabulary across both languages at a faster rate than their mono-linguistic peers. Due to the expanded vocabulary and thorough understanding of multiple language structures, it is believed that these children are also able to function on a more creative level, experience increased attention levels with the ability to block out distractions, exhibit superior reaction time, and prevent the decline of cognitive reasoning later in life. It is believed that the areas of the brain that are involved in understanding and communicating in two languages on a consistent basis are the same areas of the brain that are affected in most forms of cognitive reasoning. As this area of the brain is strengthened, the bilingual child is able to develop at a faster and improved rate as compared to mono-linguistic individuals.Bilingual children also develop enhanced social skills. Social interaction is a critical part of our lives and affects the quality of life within society, educationally, and professionally. As a child learns another language and culture they become more deeply integrated into the community, and as they progress through life they are able to communicate at a higher level on all levels. As the child looks back and remembers the challenges that they faced while learning English, they are able to relate to the sensitive issues and struggles that other people who speak less well encounter. This commonality gives the bilingual individual a sense of compassion for others. In addition, bilingual individuals are generally more balanced and comfortable in a multi-cultural environment.Online English courses have benefits that traditional classroom methods don’t offer. For instance, with an online English class the parent and child are able to use this as a time to strengthen and expand the learning process. This way the child truly experiences a bilingual lifestyle as the parent and child are both able to communicate in English as well as their native tongue on a consistent basis. Additionally, Online English classes enable the parent to encourage the child to pursue their areas of interest pertaining to the English language and culture. Some Online English courses enable the child to watch movies, play games, and learn about geography or food that is common in English speaking countries. Being able to decide upon the curriculum that they will find most beneficial is rewarding, enjoyable, and less stressful than a traditional classroom method.Another benefit of learning English through an online class is that the child is able to experience the freedom associated with learning another language and culture within their own home. Being thrown into another culture or a classroom full of new faces can be intimidating for many children. On the other hand, being able to learn at their own pace enables them to gain the confidence necessary before entering the community or traveling to the United States. There are numerous benefits of raising a bilingual child. Some of these include: economic, educational, and employment advantages as well as increased linguistic and creative abilities, improved attention levels with the ability to block out distractions, better reaction time, enhanced social skills, and prevention of the declination of cognitive reasoning later in life. By encouraging bilingualism with online English courses, the following benefits can be experience: strengthened parent-child relationships as they learn together, less stress, a positive and rewarding learning environment, as well as increased freedom to structure the curriculum around his/her own interests.American Eagle English

Chinese Foreign Ministry confirms arrest of bookseller Gui Minhai

Thursday, February 8, 2018

On Tuesday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed they had detained Hong Kong-based bookseller Gui Minhai. Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said, “Gui Minhai broke Chinese law and has already been subjected to criminal coercive measures in accordance with the law by relevant Chinese authorities”.

According to Minhai’s daughter, Chinese police arrested Gui in Beijing in January. 53-year-old Minhai, who was diagnosed with a progressive neurodegenerative disease, was travelling to the Chinese capital to see a Swedish doctor. Minhai holds dual citizenship of Sweden and China, and has written about the Chinese Communist Party leaders of China, amongst them Xi Jinping, the president of China. Geng Shuang in his statement said, “I want to once again stress that China opposes any form of speech or actions that ignore China’s legal sovereignty.”

On Monday, Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom stated, “Chinese action was contrary to basic international rules on consular support.” “The current situation also raises questions about the application of the rule of law, including the prohibition of arbitrary deprivation of liberty. We demand that our citizen be given the opportunity to meet Swedish diplomatic and medical staff, and that he be released so that he can be reunited with his daughter and family”, Wallstorm added.

In October 2015, Gui disappeared in Thailand, and months later, he was found in China and stated he had surrendered for a 2003 case of driving under the influence of alcohol, in which reportedly a student died. He was imprisoned for two years, and was released in October, last year. He was not permitted to leave China.

Geng Shuang said, “Although Gui Minhai is a Swedish citizen, the case he is involved in must be handled in accordance with Chinese law. China and Sweden are maintaining open communication channels on this case.”

Mistakes To Avoid When Attending An English School In Miami

byAlma Abell

For those people coming from another country, or even another state, to attend an English school in Miami there are some definite things that you should plan to do over the period of time that you are in the city.

Of course, you want to make sure that you attend each and every one of your classes scheduled through the English school in Miami. Most classes are designed intentionally, at least at the top schools, to provide you with time to get out and explore the city.

The top schools are strategically located in areas, such as South Beach, which offer a virtually limitless opportunity to see the sights, enjoy fine dining, do some shopping and even take trips to local attractions either through the school or on your own. Some students still may have difficulty in planning their off-campus time and end up making the following mistakes during their English school in Miami.

Staying Isolated

Learning English, just like learning any language, is all about talking with others. If you stay isolated in your room or in your apartment between classes you don’t have true immersion in the language. This is also true if you only spend time with one or two people from your class.

While it may be a challenge for some people when attending an English school in Miami get to know all your classmates and spend time with other students, faculty and trainers at the school.

Not Seeing the City

Miami is a beautiful city with lots to see and do. This is true if you enjoy hanging around on the beach, shopping at unique boutiques or going out for some amazing international cuisine and nightlife.

Remember, just going to different parts of the city and taking in local attractions, events and activities is a great way to learn more about the city and the surrounding locations.

Part of attending an English school in Miami is also learning about the culture of the USA, which is very distinct. In Miami there are many different cultural areas that you can visit to get a true feel for the variety of culture within the city. This is very similar to the variety of cultural groups and experiences throughout the state and even the country.
