Congressman Cunningham admits taking bribes

Monday, November 28, 2005

U.S. Representative Randy “Duke” Cunningham (RCA) pled guilty today to conspiring to take bribes in exchange for using his influence as a member of the House Appropriations Committee to help a defense contractor get business. In total he pled guilty to one count of income tax evasion and four counts of conspiracy, namely mail fraud, wire fraud, bribery of public official and accepting bribes. U.S. District judge Larry A. Burns scheduled Cunnigham to be sentenced on February 27. He is facing up to 10 years in prison and nearly $500,000 in fines, as well as forfeiture of unspecified amounts of cash and property.

In the court hearing, Cunningham admitted to accepting “bribes in exchange for performance of official duties” between “the year 2000 and June of 2005”, taking “both cash payments and payments in kind” and following up by “trying to influence the Defense Department”.

The federal investigation against Cunningham was triggered by his sale of his California residence to defense contractor Mitchell Wade in late 2003. However, Wade never moved in and sold the house at a $700,000 loss three quarters of a year later. At the same time Wade’s company MZM won tens of millions of dollars in defense contracts. Subsequent investigations discovered more questionable business transactions, including interactions with the defense contractor ADCS. In his plea agreement he testified that, among other charges, he “demanded, sought and received at least $2.4 million in illicit payments and benefits from his co-conspirators in various forms, including cash, checks, meals, travel, lodging, furnishings, antiques, rugs, yacht club fees, boat repairs and improvements, moving expenses, cars and boats.”

Cunningham announced his resignation after the hearing. In a written statement released by his law firm O’Melveny & Myers LLP he declared “The truth is — I broke the law, concealed my conduct, and disgraced my high office. I know that I will forfeit my freedom, my reputation, my worldly possessions, and most importantly, the trust of my friends and family.”

Olympics organisers insist London win in 2012 ballot was fair

Monday, December 26, 2005 According to the Scotsman newspaper, the directors of the 2012 London Olympics have insisted that the city won the right to host the games “fairly and squarely” after claims were touted by an Israeli official that a “potentially decisive vote was cast in error by an International Olympic Committee (IOC) official”

The Israeli official, Alex Gilady, claims that in the third round of voting, Greek delegate Lambis Nikolaou may have accidentally voted for Paris rather than Madrid, resulting in eliminating Madrid rather than Paris from the final round.

London spokesmen and bid leaders have dismissed the claims as “folklore stories”, “totally irrelevant” and “tittle-tattle”, while the CEO of the Madrid bid told the London Times, “We were very close to winning. We can never know if the Greek vote would have been decisive, but it is lamentable for one human error to have ruined all our hard work.”

KisanMarket is the portal where farmers/consumers can sell/buy their farm produce and other related products. Farmers dont know how to approach whole sellers / Retail Chains or the end consumers. Hence we decided to connect them all through kisanmarket.com. In this portal a farmer is identified / registered with their mobile number & all they has to do is enter the produce they have, the quantity & the price he/she wants depending upon the price in the open market. The farmer will determine at what price they wants to sell. There is a popular saying, The person who kills hundred in a battle is called a HERO but a person who saves one is called GOD I hope by trying to help farmers, who can be your own family members, neighbors or someone known in your friends network, you may be GOD to someone somewhere. Please let as many as know about www.kisanmarket.com as we are all aware the middlemen make most of the money leaving the farmer & consumer worried. Most of the products which are not a basic need in our life like TV, Car, bikes, even pricing of apartments are fixed but the basic need – FOOD products produced by farmers doesnt have pre determined price whereas the end product of all major brands has MRP for rice, atta, pulses etc etc. Farmers dont know how to approach whole sellers / Retail Chains or the end consumers. Hence we decided to connect them although In this portal a farmer is identified / registered with his mobile number & all he/she has to do is enter the produce they have got, the quantity & the price he/she wants depending upon the price in the open market. The farmer will determine at what price he/she wants to sell. In case if a farmer cannot work on internet, their children or neighbors or friends like you can help them post. The interested buyer will then contact them & negotiate the price which is mutually agreed & then the produce is picked up from the farm.

Apart from helping farmers to sell their produce, we are providing space for agro related companies to list their products / equipments including fertilizers. Since the middlemen are eliminated these companies can offer great discounts to farmers which will bring down the cost of produce.

Please note that the registration of both buyers & sellers are free.

KisanMarket-Online Agricultural Market place | Agricultural Products.A platform for farmers and consumers to directly interact. farmer had no organized way to sell his produce at the best price and the consumer had no way either to get the best product at the best price.

Home of controversial book publisher set ablaze

Sunday, September 28, 2008

Four people have been arrested on terrorism charges in Islington, London, England, after a suspected petrol bombing on the house of Martin Rynja, owner of book publishing company Gibson Square.

His company recently sparked controversy after buying the rights to publish The Jewel of Medina, a work of fiction by Sherry Jones depicting the Muslim prophet Muhammad and his child bride, Aisha.

The bombing, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, led to the evacuation of the £2.5 million property in Lonsdale Square. Three men, aged 22, 30 and 40, were arrested at 2:25am BST by armed officers, two in Lonsdale Square, and one after being stopped near Angel tube station.

Police comments suggested that the trio had been under surveillance, and that they had advance knowledge of the plot and simply waited for the arsonists to strike, before arresting them.

On Saturday, a woman was arrested for obstructing police during their searches of four addresses – two in Walthamstow, and two in Ilford and Forest Gate.

Speaking earlier this month, Mr Rynja said that “The Jewel of Medina has become an important barometer of our time. As an independent publishing company, we feel strongly that we should not be afraid of the consequences of debate.” Ms Jones commented that she did not intend for her novel to be offensive to Islam. She noted that she “[has] deliberately and consciously written respectfully about Islam and Muhammad.” She “envisaged that [her] book would be a bridge builder” between Islam and the western world.

Explosion, fire on guided missile cruiser USS Leyte Gulf injures five

Saturday, September 15, 2007

Five civilian contractors have been injured after an explosion and fire onboard the Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser USS Leyte Gulf at 9:25 a.m. today.

A large explosion erupted from the ship’s berthing area where welding work was being conducted during a stop in Norfolk, Virginia. A fire broke out two decks below main deck, but was quickly extinguished. The injured were taken to Norfolk General Hospital for treatment to injuries not believed to be life-threatening, according to John Kowalczyk, a spokesman for BAE Systems Ship Repair, who were conducting the work.

He added that the fire appeared to be an isolated incident. The ship has been laid up for repairs and modernizing since May.

Four-year-old boy attacked by Pit bull mix

Friday, August 24, 2007

Just before midnight Wednesday, four-year-old Taylor Bailey, nicknamed Bucky, was attacked by a neighbor’s dog. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix named Money chased the boy after he stepped out of his mother’s car, eventually knocking the boy to the ground and latching onto his leg.

The same dog had bitten the boy’s father the week before, according to the family, although this has not been confirmed by police. He recognized the dog and alerted his mother to the dogs presence just moments before the attack. She urged her son to come to her, but the one-year-old, 85-pound (~39 kg) male broke free from his restraints and attacked the screaming boy.

The struggle lasted several minutes before the boy’s mother, Melinda Walters, was able to fight off the dog, leaving her knees scraped and thigh scratched. The boy’s legs were punctured, scratched and bruised with bits of flesh missing. “It didn’t go away. It was just trying to grab me … trying to kill me,” the boy said. Walters was carrying her three-year-old son Jason on her hip during much of the fight.

The dog’s owner, Marquita Mooney, 23, was ticketed along with a relative who was watching the dog. She said that rather than register the dog as a potentially dangerous animal—which involves an insurance bond, fees, kennel requirements and more—she would have the dog put down. Police reports indicate that the dog bit two other dogs about two weeks ago. Mooney has been ticketed for both incidents.

This is the second such incident in Minneapolis this month—seven-year-old Zach King Jr. was attacked and killed in his home last week by his family’s pit bull—fueling the debate over banning pit bulls and other “dangerous breeds” in some communities. Since 1966, there have been four other deaths from dog attacks in Minnesota, all but one of which were of children seven-years-old or younger.

Times Are Changing: How To Eat New Skills}

Times Are Changing: How To Eat New Skills

Children and Food

Because it had been tricky to take objects without canals or trains or trucks, many individuals could eat meals that is local, seasonal. If there is a shortage of meals as of bad-weather or crop disorders, or as soldiers had shattered the plants within an war, people starved. Individuals in different places ate foods, depending on that which animals dwelt there and which plants climbed. At India, it absolutely was sugar along with bananas. At Central Asia, where people raised cows, they ate lots of yogurt, cheese, also beef, but also apples along with carrots. In Africa, folks ate figs, yams, palm acrylic, beer, java beans, teff, along with millet. Additional north in Europe, they also drank beer too, however together with salted hamand bacon, butter, oats along with rye bread. Round the Atlantic Ocean at South America, folks liked berries, corn, peanuts, berries, peppers, along with chocolate, whilst further northfolks ate turkey, sweet potatoes, sunflower seeds, salmon, along with wild rice.

The meals people consumed assorted a superb deal

from time to time and from place to place when individuals could easily get food. There are a few matters these days and regions had in accordance. When Europeans commenced sailing round the Atlantic Ocean into the Americas roughly 1500 AD, then they attracted sheep and pigs and chickens, wheat, beehives, sugar, and apples with them. Somewhat later, it was tea and also java. They attracted American sweet potatoes to China, where lousy people started to consume sweet potatoes as their principal meals. But the following important strategy men and women had would be to attract foods into their own spot. Central Asians brought hens along with cows and apples to West Asia All Around 7000 BC; dates first Originated in West Asia into Africa about 4000 BC. Wheat Initially attained China from West Asia about 2500 BC; chickens Initially reached West Asia out of India roughly 1, 000 BC. Bananas reached Africa from India approximately Five Hundred BC, and rice left India to get West Asia and Europe a few hundred Decades later.

To begin with rationale foods was so expensive was that there was no heating or freezers. It had been very tough to store food from going negative. One way many individuals applied all within the earth was supposed to eat lots of fish and shellfish such as crabs, mussels, clams, and oysters. Those meals retained themselves fresh and living, and you might go collecting or fishing additives new. The potency of Central Asia and also the Growth of the Silk Road involving 500 BC and 1500 ADinvited a Ton more money of food all across Asia. More Central Asian cinnamon and also pepperbegan to reach Europe and China. Bee-keepingwent from West Asia to China, also peaches, lemons, and oranges returned at the different way. Central Asian food items scientists also bred much better carrots and offered them. Sugar distribute from India all over Asia and even up to Europe and North Africa; java and tea spread across Asia in Africa and China. All through the majority of background, most people never received enough to consume, and lots of individuals starved to death. Food was far costlier than it is now, and authorities helped individuals out less than they do now. Even farmers often went hungry when city inhabitants took all their food to their as taxation or even tithes, even if the weather was bad and storms or even viruses destroyed the harvest. Children went more than their moms and dads, since in the event the mother and father starved the children would die any way from negligence, where if the parents even lived the famine they would have more children. Individuals also worked hard to conserve foods which did not maintain. The main method was draining food and storing it carefully: men and women stored wheat and barley and millet along with ricealong with corn. In addition they dried fruit to make raisins, dried figs along with dates, dried legumes, dried corn, and dried apples. Back in Peru, folks freeze-dried potatoes. Men and women pickled eggs and vegetables, meat, also fish in brine (salty water) to produce pickles along with garum, an fermented fish sauce. They fermented coconut juice and apple juice and barley to turn them to winealong with cider and beer. They left milk to yogurt and also cheese. They smoked-meat out of pigsto make ham and bacon, and so they stored steak at honey.
